FAQs
What is naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is a unique healthcare field that blends the knowledge of natural remedies with the advancements of contemporary science. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are educated to function as primary care providers, managing acute and chronic illnesses while considering the body, mind, and spirit. Rather than merely addressing symptoms, NMDs concentrate on promoting whole-patient wellness and disease prevention by addressing the root cause of the patient's condition.
Did naturopathic doctor’s go to medical school?
Naturopathic Medical Doctors (NMDs) complete a four-year, post-graduate medical program at accredited naturopathic medical schools. Their comprehensive curriculum includes the standard medical courses as well as extensive training in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, integrative medicine, botanical medicine, physical medicine, and counseling. To become a licensed Naturopathic Physician, students must complete the full four-year program on-site at an accredited institution. This rigorous program includes courses such as anatomy with a cadaver lab, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology, gynecology, urology, cardiology, pulmonology, and EENT, among others. More information can be found on aanmc.org.
Is naturopathic/integrative medicine right for me?
It's a good option if you're looking to address the underlying causes of an illness rather than just the symptoms. It's also beneficial if you want to take an active role in managing your own health. Additionally, if you suffer from chronic disease and are not interested in relying on pharmaceutical drugs for long-term management or if you have exhausted conventional medical options for diagnosing and treating a health condition, it may be a worthwhile consideration.
